“Live and Lets Live” AIDS Concert

By Deardra Shuler

Nollywood actress, comedian, and international singer Patience Ozokwo (MaMa G) is lending her extraordinary talents and support to the “Live and Lets Live World Aids Day Concert “ set for November 27, 2010 at 9:00 p.m., where Mama G will exercise her humantarian bent in an effort to aid Save Africa Concerts Foundation and the Department of Economics and Social Council of the United Nations Congo and UNAIDS to promote their agenda of HIV/AIDS awareness, testing, and screening throughout various African countries.

The concert will be hosted by Lola Jimoh who performed in Law & Order, Spike TV, the soap opera “All My Children,” and appeared in Avalon hair product and Makara Skincare commercials and owns her own jewelry company "Aburoy." Other African talents such as Nigerian pop singer Flavour Nabania, Daddy Showkey and American idol contestant Nnenna will also headline and add excitement to the concert in support of the Kingdom Project, a new project implemented by Save Africa Concerts Foundation in the city of Ajegunle, in Lagos, Nigeria. The project will oversee human rights violations, HIV/AIDS education, testing and screening in the region.

Known for such hits as “National Moi Moi,” and “This Kind of Woman,” Mama G is well known throughout the Diaspora, Europe and African continent. Flavour Nabinia rose from virtual obscurity via his introductory album “N’abania” which topped virtually all the charts in the East, and made its way to other parts of Nigeria. He has since gone onto critical acclaim with “Nwa Baby” and his recent video OYI (I dey catch cold). Daddy Showkey has risen to stardom via his songs “Somebody Call My Name,” “Ghetto Soldier,” and “Dyna.”

The “Live and Lets Live World AIDS Day Benefit Concert” will be held at the 630 Ballroom located at 630 Second Avenue (bet. 34th and 35th Street) in Manhattan. As part of the concert, the first 300 people who agree to be tested and take part in “WHEELS ON THE MOVE” a special SACAIDS Testing Program, from 12 noon to 7:00 pm on November 11, 2010, will receive a free ticket to attend the “Live and Lets Live World AIDS Day Concert.” These first 300 people will also qualify for the raffle draw with a prize of a round trip air ticket and hotel accommodation for a 7 night stay in Lekki Peninsular Lagos, Nigeria.
